• Speaker :Mr Kissler
  • Extract :We are nearing the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak, one of the worst natural disasters to ever strike humanity. What is being done to reduce the threat of another massive influenza pandemic? Mathematics, perhaps surprisingly, is at the forefront of the fight. I'll explain why mathematics has so much to offer to the study of influenza, and will introduce a citizen science experiment being done in collaboration with the BBC (which you can take part in!) to better understand how diseases spread in the modern, interconnected world.
